Been thinking about this a lot since watching @eve

“Do you find it hard to be vegan?” is a questi $“Do you find it hard to be vegan?” is a question I’m commonly asked. . Checking the ingredient and materials list of food and clothing respectively isn’t particularly hard, nor is abstaining from eating animals and animal products in the first place. I simply do not view animals and their secretions as “food”. . Instead, the hardest part about going vegan was having my eyes opened to unjust animal exploitation. An injustice 99% of people unconsciously partake in, and is completely normalised in every country in the world. An injustice that annually sees (at a conservative estimate) 70 billion individuals killed for food alone (excluding aquatic individuals whose deaths are measured in tons). An injustice that when brought to the attention of its perpetrators produces severe cognitive dissonance and flawed logic; they’ll suddenly express concern for plant suffering, compare themselves to wild carnivorous animals, and try to divert the conversation to a hypothetical situation whereby a vegan is stuck on a deserted island. An injustice that is completely inexcusable at the end of the day. . But the mental fatigue and angst I experience as a vegan, is a fraction of what billions of animals are going through around the world right now. All that factory farmed animals have experienced is eternal suffering. Even the small proportion of farmed animals that are treated “well” still experience fear and pain when they have their lives brought to an end at a slaughterhouse. .
